no power

I have an 88 190E 2.6 and sometimes when I'm driving, i'll step on the gas pedal and the economy gauge goes up so i know it's using gas, but the car will bearly accelerate even when i'm almost flooring it. Then when I floor it, it drops down a gear and then it will go. The RPM's stay the same before it drops down a gear so that means it's not going into neautral because if it was then the RPMS would go up. So does anybody have any clue about what could be happening?

I have the same thing in my '89. I ordered a new fuel filter, which has yet to arrive. Crossing fingers for both of us, Andrew Seidel.

There could be various reasons for this loss of power. Drawing from a similar experience we had with the 260E, th ultimate fixer was replacing the accelerator cable. But in our case, it was a constant high RPM at idle albeit the power was not the ultimate one could ask for.

Perhaps it was also replacing the injectors which made a big difference.

Our fuel pump and filter was good.

So perhaps you mght want to start with the fuel system and pump before moving onto the injectors?
