1985 380SE (3.8 SOHC) firing order help
so my brother-in-law was changing wires cap rotor and plug for a frioend. he said he crossed something and cant get it to run right. I found the order 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2. cylinders are 1234 on pass. side 5678 on driver. Still not running correctly. Maybe I have wrong numbers on cap? there are two bolts for cap, can someone clarify the order on the cap in relation to the two screws? I cant figure out what we are missing> any help would be greatly appreciated. we are both american v8 guys and the mercedes thing is diffrent to us. I love the car! Just new to it. I can tell you that this is much easier to work on. They built these cars to be serviced and to last! Thanks again.

It would be similar theory as any engine, basic stuff. Find the pointer for the timing mark on the crank and get it the mark that says O|T, this is a bit different on a Mercedes, this OT mark is TDC. Then take the cap off and see where the rotor is pointing. The mark has to be on the top of compression stroke of course. I'd assume you can tell by looking at the cap if it's correct or not (might be off 180 degrees, you can either rotate the engine one more time or else just go with the knowledge that the OTHER side is #1). Once you figure out #1, then you go clockwise around the cap with the firing order on the engine.

The Zundfolge is on the cam cover. That's firing order.
