Need Advice: Gear Lever moves even if Key's Out
I have a 1997 210 e50 (119 engine, 722.6 trans). I recently had the transmission replaced with a rebuilt unit.
All works well except that the park lock safety system seems to have been inadvertently disabled. Keys can now be removed regardless of gear lever position. Gear lever can now also be moved even with the key out. Park safety lock system was working well before transmission was replaced. Would very much appreciate any inputs where to start (fuses, loose harness connections, etc.)? I will take it to back to the shop but would like to have an idea what went wrong. Thanks |

Thank you very much for the helpful info from you good people
Fyi. Transmission was replaced because of coolant mixing with transmission fluid resulting in irreversible damage to clutches and other internal parts to the extent of grinding the input and output shaft bearings. I did not notice anything until it was too late. There was an emulsified oil/water mix when I checked the coolant reserve tank a few days before complete failure. What happened was that the transmission oil cooler line inside the radiator corroded letting pressurized coolant water in despite the radiator looking perfectly ok from the outside. Hope this info helps others as well. |

Problem fixed. It turns out that this particular model has a cable from the key fob to the transmission housing. The cable was just removed then reinserted to the transmission socket and everything went back to normal.
Thanks for all the help. |
