I've put about $4K in the last 3 years including HID's and stereo in my "92 190E (now 187k) I just finished doing valve stem seals DYI. Well this weekend the drivehaft universal went out 400 mi from home. Rather than chance diving it home I took it to an indy. He told me he would try to find a used one, but nevertheless another expense. While driving it prior to this issue I was telling myself that I'm just going to keep this car going because I LOVE IT. It looks and drives like new

The last two weeks....new water pump $125.00, hoses, etc. $25, oil changes, and new Fan Pulley Bracket $175.00, new fan blade $80.00. Couldn't I have a nice new BMW or MERC for what I'm averaging to keep this old gal alive (not to mention the lack of gas mileage she gets). Don;t get me wrong, I love to learn, work, and fix her but geez...where do I draw the line now?
Been lucky with our 1988 W126... hardly even any problems and its nearly 170K. I have owned several 80s Mercedes and while durable and easy to service, it can break you up if you want it pristine. We keep ours in good mechanical order.

On the list for ours this summer is have the fuel gauge repaired later this week, new tires, alignment (and probably ball joints), trunk seal, antenna seal and motor) and odometer repair. Also, I think the PS pump needs a new filter and flushed soon.... its soon to become just an extra car, as dad is about to buy mom a brand new SUV... Mercedes SUV or Buick SUV, not sure yet.

Good luck!
