MB Code reader on ebay
Would this be a good scanner to pick up for troubleshooting the electronics on newer MB's?

Question on the code reader shown on an earlier post with the Dell computer. Will that unit read sensor values and tell you exactly which sensor is at fault? I'm setting up shop and that looks like just what I need to work on the newer MB's. If anyone is familiar with the unit shown please pm me your thoughts on it.
The tech at Exclusive uses that setup and it's great . . I've "watched" him and sometimes it takes 'forever' to get a result. Yes, for some "ckts", it does test and give results . . but I don't think it can test "ALL" sensors for a definite t/s to the particular bad component. The system is much more advanced than my 'standard', an AST Retriever. For a shop, it would be extremely helpful . . IMO. |

Thanks for asking Jim. I'm doing fine. Married wife #2 a couple years ago and now I see what a proper marriage should be like. She is a nurse that has been at the same hospital for 25 years and she does good. She has a heart of gold.
I've been unemployed for a couple months and am in the process of building a shop to do import repair. I figure if I am going to set up shop I'm going to have to have one of these jewels. The nearest MB (and BMW) dealer is 77 miles away. Plans are to also work on BMW's, Honda's, Toyota's and Volvo's. No one is doing it around here. All the shops around here just want to work on domestics and they are always busy. Right now I don't even have a code reader. What do you mean it takes "forever" to get a result? Is it fairly user friendly?

Looks like you will be very busy when the doors open. Fixing the myriad of brands, will guarantee that you'll have a full shop. I think I see an "assistant" in your future.
Re taking forever . . it was a late model MB, 2008 or so and he had repaired a failed front air-variable-shock. The Star program directed that he run a long series of tests which took quite awhile . . . . if I remember correctly. Yes, it did pass! Wouldn't mind having one myself but can't justify the cost. One of the problems with that system . . . and any system w/ high number of pins contained on large interconnecting cables . . is the wear on the pins and interface connections resulting in ohmic connections to the Star machine. This produces test failures or system self-test difficulties. It seem user friendly from what I've seen of it in operation. Good luck on the new venture . . . |

Thanks Jim.
A few years ago I purchased a hardcopy of your code information from you and have to occasionally pull it out for reference. Always appreciate the useful info you provide.
