Removing Oil Pan, M103 difficult?

I have a new oil pump and want to change out the gasket on the oil pan. I already have the head and intake manifold off the car and the front timing cover and hub. How much do I have to lift the engine in order to snake out the oil pan from the cross member?
Would say 2-3 inches do? Anyone attempt this? Any hints on lifting the engine with the head off and the oil pan off?
Thanks in advance,

the biggest hurdles are the fan, the valve cover and the exhaust. they're off, so all you have to do is run 2 head bolts into the block and jack it up. you should have a tool that sits between the fenders and pulls on the motor, that's the easiest. it's got to come about about 4 inches. mbdoc told me years ago, loosen the mounts and wedge 4x4s to keep it high enough to get the last part of the pan out. trying it with a floor jack? no clue as to how to do it. good luck, chuck.

Can you clarify to head bolts into the block? I was under the assumption that I had to rebolt the head on to get the engine lift attachment points back. Are you saying stick 2x4's under the engine mounts after you lift the motor to help give you the lift? Do I need to disco the driveshaft and drain the trans?

here is where I am at.

Yes sir....that one is stripped. Put an old head bolt in front and in rear on opposite corners. Rear one probably on cyl #5 so you dont run into false firewall. Hook a chain to em and lift her up with a cherry picker. I think you also need to get the front sway bar, steering stabilizer, etc...out of the way.

yeah, i forgot about dropping the sway bar. it's been a while since i've done a 103 pan. but that and whatever steering should be obvious once it's hooked and lifted. good luck, chuck.

Im taking this chance to power wash the whole engine. You wouldnt believe the oil all over everything. Ive determined that every bracket must come off in order to get rid of all the buildup. No other way would be right. Maybe ill upgrade to a sportline bar since it will be off.
