lifter's
Help please,need to replace lifter's on my 89 300se,making a lot of noise now all the time in the back of engine,was just on start up but now all the time,need to know if i can just remove rocker's only to get to lifter's or do i have to remove cam,it has almost 300,000 miles did cylinder head about 30,000 miles ago but didnt replace lifter's at that time,guess i should have,thanks for any help on this ,other than lifter ticking engine runs great.

you need to unbolt the 4 bolts from the rocker assembly from whatever position that lifter is under. make sure the valves are closed. if open and you try to bolt it down, the threads in the head will pull out rather than the rocker bolt down and open the valve. watch the shims between the rocker and valve, they stick to the rocker and fall off and if you lose 1, there's 2 different sizes. good luck, chuck.

Check Cam
It is an easy job but make sure you watch for the little cup washers on top of each stem. CHECK your cam. Mine had lobe wear. If you have ticking after oil pressure builds at your mileage I would not think I would be lucky enough for it just to be lifters. There are several excellent DIY links on lifter replacement but check the cam or you may wind up like me and need to do it twice.
