Replaced outboard tail light units....

on my '01 E-320 4Matic wagon. Had intermitent outage on DS, then PS and then nothing. Checked the fuses and bulbs, all OK. Then called my indymac and they said it's VERY common for the circuit boards to go bad W210. They even stock them in pairs. Glad I have an account at the dealer. My old units are PERFECT in appearance, is there a value/reuse too them, or are they just ornaments in the garage? How many other of you have had this experience? Dennis

Starting with the W210 chassis, MB has had overvoltage issues with MANY of their lights.

Both headlight & tail lights. OF course the design has also been "poor" as well.

Sold & installed 100's of replacement lens for that problem!

can you describe the nature of this over-voltage ailment specific to the 210?
on a 12vdc system, how is it that the rear lights are driven higher? thanks.

With Electronics in cars playing MORE & more roles..MB & almost all car makers have had to raise system voltages.

MB runs most cars at 14V +, and that can create issues on lights designed to run at 12V.

ON the W210 cars MB had to add resistors inside the headlights to keep the wiring from MELTING. And that doesn't always work. Sometimes even the resistors melt.

From day 1 on the W210's the tail lights melted from excessive heat on the circuit boards.
