The FSS won't reset if a check engine light is on.Since I have no bulb there as dealer removed it.I can't tell if something is wrong.
But I read the light triggers the limp home mode.So heck with a light.
The only thing I have changed as I use to reset FSS, is my Chip.I will unplug the Chip and see if it works.
Unplugged chip and still no reset.

I've never ever heard that a MIL will keep the reset from occurring. I'm not saying it absolutely is untrue, but very skeptical that this is true, I'm sure I would have heard this before.

I would try it without waiting for everything to "go to sleep", I never did this before. It does have to happen in a fairly short time period, as the "official" instructions point out.

People have so many different capabilities with the internet and so forth, that I don't know if this is feasable or not, what I want to ask you is if you can make a video of you trying to reset the FSS and post it maybe on youtube?, maybe I can give some pointers. I'm sure it WILL reset.

Had me wondering if there already is a vid of someone resetting FSS on youtube. I did find a couple for the 210 chassis, which is similar. Only difference that I can think of is the "reset" button I don't think has a "zero" on it, but it is the button you use to reset the tripmeter. I think it's on the right side of the instrument panel on a 140, but not 100% on that. Just remember the tripmeter reset button. Here is the vid I found, in case you've never seen a reset done at all:

And again the variation I want you to try, if this doesn't work:
Get in and close door, turn the key on and press the reset (tripmeter) button twice, it will display the miles remaining on service (or in your case mileage you are over by). THEN hold down the button, THEN turn the key off, and back on again, THEN wait about 10 seconds. A little different than he does in the video. Try it like the guy in the video as well.

The Mercedes website said they would not reset if check engine light however its not running when you try and set FSS.
I've let her sleep and try ,and tried when shes awake. Will battery diconnected for 1 hour work?
I'm afraid of disconnecting battery as I've heard horror stories.
Can't reset windows as one regulator makes a terrible noise.(right rear)

No, no, that won't matter, neither will letting it sleep. I thought you said you waited until everything went out inside, and again if you watch the video, that's not correct either.
Here is a guy resetting an ML, see if that helps (foreign language, but you can see the steps he is doing).

Maybe there really is a problem and yours won't reset for some odd reason. But I don't think so.

Almost the entire system is in the instrument cluster, as far as keeping track of the time since last reset and miles, it does take in info from the engine control module for the "type" of driving that has been done (makes the interval longer if it has been mostly highway miles and shorter if it has been mostly city driving, although it's all way more complex than that. The time element stays the same, all preset and also a dealer can change the time element, I want to say 2 yrs is the factory preset on time).

Can you post a link to the Mercedes website stuff you mentioned where they mention the check engine light? Maybe that's true currently but I'm sure not on a 140.

Sorry I thought you said "I'LL let her sleep", I got confused.
You can actually reset windows on a 140 by just holding the switch in the "UP" position, no need to roll them up and down, so you could reset them anyways. Plus if that window makes a terrible noise and you don't want to touch it, no real need to resynchronize it anyways. But no, disconnecting/reconnecting power on a car very rarely has any kind of an effect on a problem.

My car has the "38 pin connector" under the hood on the passenger side nearish the firewall. It has a cover on it that I think has a lightning bolt molded on it, and a hex boss in the middle for a socket to remove it. It is a 1/2 turn like a radiator cap.
