Universal Joint

Anyone ever replace a driveshaft? besides going to the dealer, any good source out there for a reman? I see a couple of online places. I may need to do this on my 96 C220 sometime. I took down the rear DS and noticed the U-joint is notchy. I do feel slight vibration at certain speeds. This is after I replaced the center support and bearing. Flex discs are fine.

Thanks for the info. There's also a place here locally that does U-joint work. Since the W202 joint is pressed-in (rather than held by C-clip) they said the U-joint will need to be replaced ($800). If the it can be repaired, they want $300.

There are places online that sell rebuilt for $270 to $350. Much better. Anyone ever try rebuilt from online?

LA is a great big freeway.. put 100,000 miles or more... ok, where in LA? Powertrain company is in Garden Grove and they rebuild DS's. I spoke with them just now. Its the same rebuilt unit that some online stores sell. And they said these are done in the USA.

Why replacing/repairing? Does it vibrate? Every single one I've ever taken apart had the little notch spot in in it.....no vibrations on them though....

Nothing urgent. After tapping the UJ, most of the notchiness went away. And yes there was a slight intermittent vibration. I think I know where to get it now though when I need to replace it.
