Oil coming out of exhaust pipe.....
Posted on this forum also since I figured I might get more info and seeing how the engines are the same in my ML and the E cars. I am getting straight oil out of my tailpipe on my ML 320, you can stick your finger in the exhaust pipe and come out with a finger of oil. The car only has 130k, starts fine runs fine, but every once in a while all of a sudden it will smoke going down the road like you have never seen, YOU CAN'T SEE THE CARS BEHIND YOU! Its that bad, then will quit and go back to normal. I had the oil changed 300 miles ago and I just had to add 2 qrts. What could this be? It looks to me if it was piston rings or valve stem seals it would smoke all the time. All help is appreciated.

Removed the valve covers, oil is coming through the crankcase vent tubes on top of the valve cover and running in to the throttle body. Some one said my oil return bores in the head are clogged. Does anyone know where the oil returns on on this engine. Also can it be done manually or does the heads have to be removed.

On your heads there are oil return bores. However check throttle body first as its easy.If oil there proceed to check positive crankcase vetilation

and.....
......never, ever, fill to the "full" mark. 1/2 way between is ideal........otherwise you'll think you actually are burning oil due to a mechanical problem....instead of an "operator error"!

Still alittle unsure of myself on what I need to do but I removed both valve covers which the heads have alot of sludge and build up in them, I picked all kinds of junk out of the holes where the head bolts are. I am not sure on the location of the oil drain bores inside the heads.....? From what I see if I could find them they should definitely be stopped up....The oil is being pushed out thru my crankcase ventilation hoes and into my throttle body. I am not sure what areas to check other than something in the head being stopped up. How do I check for proper crankcase ventilation?

In almost any head, the oil drain holes will be in a low spot. On V-8 engines, where the heads are mounted at an angle--they are on the lower side of the head. As you're looking at the head (with the valve covers off) just keep in mind that the oil should settle at a low point before draining. If it's that sludged up, the actual holes might blend in with the bottom of the head until you get it cleaned up some.
Hope this helps.
