190E suspension suggestions

Hello everyone! I am about to replace shocks and struts on my 1991 190E (126,000 miles) with Bilstein Comforts. Should I replace the rear springs as well since they are relatively inexpensive? What else should I replace in the front end while I am at it? The only problem I have noticed (other than shocks and struts) is a slight shimmy or shudder in the steering when I go over bumps at hiway speeds. I will also be putting on new tires while I am at it and would like to know if anyone recommends anything other than Michelins. Thanks for your help, and I really enjoy following this forum, and the speedy service and reasonable prices from FastLane.

You are making a good choice with the Bilstiens they are top quality. I don't know why you would consider changing just the rear springs. I replaced all 4 of mine because the fronts were sometimes bottoming out spirited city driving. I replaced the shocks at different times then the struts I used Boge which were OEM and KYB on the rear which I was not too happy with.
If there is a shimmy in the front check for loose tie rod ends, idler arm, ball joints etc but first check for a bent rim and go to a tire shop that balances the tires with a high tech machine that gets then exact espacially if you are spending big $$$ on Michelins.

consider Sportline

If you are going to do a comprehensive suspension job, why not go ahead and get the full Sportline package, which is available for the 190E:

Thumbs up 109e suspension

My '89 190e needs the same stuff at 98,000 mi. I'd like to raise it up a little at the same time. The thing bottoms out occasionally with a full passenger load.

I'm planning to mount Dunlop Sport A2's. They're rated very high and a lot cheaper than Michelin. Another option is Yokohama Avid H4. I'd go with a little wider tire, i.e. 195/60R15.

When you get done, let us know how you like the results.

Davek you probably need springs and struts on the front. I had the lower control arm bushings done with the springs and it made a heck of a difference in ride and handling. The other stuff can be done piece by piece if you are on a budget.
These cars run and run well for a long time. I have over 200k on my 1990 190E and it doesn't seem like its a high miler.
