Dealers typically don't charge for resetting the roll bars, play dumb and don't mention the tire incident. All it takes is a long screw driver or 1/4" extension to push the trap door down while you simultaneously push the headrests down. You might want to consider learning the trick if you or he plan on owning the car for a while.
