Intermittent low coolant warning light

Hi,

So the low coolant light has come on periodically over the last 3 weeks in my ML. It comes on, stays on for a little while (minutes) and then goes off. Only to come on again at another point in time.

The first time I saw the low coolant warning light, the coolant was down about 10 oz., give or take. I topped it off. Subsequently it is not down at all.

Can anyone tell me where is the sensor for this and why it might come on periodically?

Many thanks!

"Some"

Members here get all torqued up ,when they cannot render assistance to
you CAUSE... YOU HAVEN'T "Told" them what YEAR and Model Mercedes.

Me? No Problemo.
[You're driving an ATC and need all the help you can get!]

we'll "Pick" on the 163.154 (ML320)

EPC Says: Coolant Level Sensor is contained in expansion reservoir.
Which means IF the Level sensor is BAD ...New Tank. ($85.00 USD retail)
I've No access to the ML's FSM , but there' s gotta be a simple test
procedure in there.Somewhere?

(There is a chance that the "Float" inside the Surge Tank is Calibrated to work ONLY
with the correct "Protective" mixture of Antifreeze/Distilled H2O.
Believe it or not, some Fords do this)

Purpose of Level Sensor is to make it a little more difficult for the Operator
to "Cook Off" the Engine DUE to lack of Coolant.

1.Low Coolant
2.Bad Sensor
3.Bad electronics/wiring
4.Blue Moon over Tuscaloosa?

Oopse.

Thanks for the reply! You ROCK!

The mixture is of MB origin and sounds as if i will need to replace the tank.

I'll re-check the electrical connections and give it another week to see if there is any fluid loss. If all appears stable, i'll order a new tank and that will hopefully put this gnat of a probelm behind me.

Bad sensor/sender for sure. I have one that does the same thing.
