92 300E tranny in a 86 300E?

Will this work? Will I need to change anything? Any help would be great.

Doesn't a 92 use the electronic speedo?

Yes it will bolt up, but you may have issues on that side.

The old tranny number is 722.42903135698, the replacement tranny number is 722.32002789366. That will work?

It should fit. The bell housings should be the same.
The torque converter that came with the 722.3 must be used though.
A torque converter from a 722.4 wont fit on a 722.3

The earliest W124 with M103 3 litre engines used the 722.4.
Later on the 3.0 litre engines changed to the 722.3 while the 2.6 engines retained the 722.4.

I went and looked at it tonight,, it will fit. I think the tranny is a 93 though. Does that make a difference?

The only difference I see is a vacuum line by the kick down cable, what is that for?

If it was a 722.4....doesn't the .4 have a longer driveshaft?

Re: vac line. That's not the kickdown cable, it's the pressure cable (bowen) that ties to the throttle linkage. The vac line is for 2-3 shift delay when cold on 92'/93' models for faster cat warmup (smog stuff). No affect on normal shifting, cap nipple and forget about it.

Ok, one more problem. The electric conection on the 86 tranny is round, the connection on the 93 is a rectangle shape, now what should I do?

You will need to go to the junkyard and get the correct cable that fits a 722.3. This is the NSS cable. While you are at the junkyard you will need the cooler lines that fit the 722.3 and the transmission dipstick tube and stick.

You will also need a speedo from a 722.3 300e.

If you haven't worked it out yet. You will need to change the rear connecting yoke that connects to the drive shaft flex disk. There's a 30mm hollow bolt that connects the yoke to the transmission shaft.

If you remove the driveshaft. Make sure your you mark the position of both halves of the drive shaft spline. The drive shafts are balanced and must be reassembled on the spline in the exact same position.

Ok, I have given up on the 93 tranny. I have found a 86 190E 2.3 tranny for sale that I think will fit. If anybody knows different please let me know. Thanks for all the help.
