rear link connecting rod keeps breaking

I just replace a broken connecting rod with a new one after installing new hub carriers on my 1988 190E. The car drove fine for like 40 miles or so then I heard a clunk. The new connecting rod broke again!!!!!
What would contribute to such failure?
The connecting rod is part 8a on this picture
