Anyone ever upgrade/modify their washer jets?

I see a lot of newer-ish cars having a much better spray pattern jet than what our 124/126etc vintage cars do. They do a much nicer job of covering the entirety of the windshield and do so wasting less fluid.

Anyone ever thinking about modding/upgrading?

Just replace the washer jets with new...
They tend to get a bit clogged with age.
They are more then adequate for the 124 monowiper and are heated...

Thats what I am going to do. I was just curious if anyone had the thought.

I was driving home last night and it came to mind.

I've replaced the passenger side. I need to do the driver side eventually. Its pretty wimpy.

connect a pipe and small funnel or syringe and put some CLR in there, it will remove the salty clog

remove from the hood first.

Replace the clogged units with new.
On the 124/126, IMO all other options are a down grade.

A sewing needle or insulin syringe works quite well for cleaning the jets.
I like sewing needles for adjusting the jets.

Make sure the pump isn't wearing out / inlet filter clogged / hose kinked / check valve clogged ( if it has one )

Good sprayers give a sheeting / shearing pattern while older stuff is more of a fire hose. Low fluid flow will lead to a poor pattern with the newer stuff.

I did the job on my 190E recently (new hose, valve, nozzles and pump). Aimed them on the glass using my trusty pick/probe, and I'm set.

I think the new cars with the "diffuser" to spread the washer fluid in a "fan" doesn't look good on the older cars, plus the nozzles have to be modified so there'll be a "slit" instead of a round hole for the nozzles. The slit is what diffuses the fluid, IIRC.

on the monowiper cars the aiming is pretty important as it helps the wiper spread the water and do a good cleaning job. I aimed my cars jets correctly - just for kicks and it really does help.
