190E Cosworth cold running problems
Hello All,
I am having some issues with my 1986 16valve 190E. It has a "surging" problem when the engine is cold. I start the car is pull out and start accelerating. When i get to about 4000 RPM, it feels like the car hangs, then begins to accelerate again then repeats. If i try to power through it the car really starts to bang backwards and forwards. Once the engine is up to operating temperature or after about 5 minutes, this problem ceases. Only other symptom is the car has a weak idle and this is present all the time. Any help is appreciated.

When was the last time the valve clearances were checked, especially the exhaust valves? Has there been a recent compression test of the cylinders?

The valves have been checked quite recently. Within the past 4 months. The car has been in the shop 4 separate times for this same issue. My indy is good but hasn't been able to resolve it.
The top end has been rebuilt at around 160k Miles. As of then compression is good. I don't know if he has checked it again since then. The mechanic is quite thorough though.
