722.369 tear down

Well, here we go.





The 30mm 12 point nut has a bit bent into a space on the receiving shaft. I put a large amount of torque on it hoping it would just bend back out. It did not. Has anyone seen this?

have you tried just taking the nut off? I know it seems like you need to bend that part out but on my 722.418 I just put the socket on it and removed it without an issue.

Doing some deep searching resulted in grinding down the 30mm cheap socket chamfer and putting it on an impact wrench.

I'm impressed that yours came off without any trouble.

Those newer nuts are easier to remove than the old slotted nuts

I just put it in park and put a 18" 1/2 breaker bar on mine and kicked it loose....it looks like they did a good job hammering in that nut lock. A strong impact will work too.

My shop table does not have "park", but I'll definitely do that on the tranny in the wagon.

Noticing some of Stretch's pictures, it looks like some people have actually ground out the bent portion. If it comes to that, I'll do it. I want to try ye old impact wrench first. But considering my 30mm is a gearwrench, it may just be eaten by the impact wrench.

I'm sure I'll see a snap on truck before the end of the week

All the trannies I do. I just impact it off. If you do not have the compressor, or impact wrench, the best alternative is the Harbor Freight 1/2" electric impact gun-cheap practical.

Electric Impact Wrench - 1/2"

Having trouble finding the 12point 30mm socket? Go to NAPA auto parts-they are cheap, and available in HOURS not days..

I took the chrome 30mm back and got the real impact socket, it will come off tonight and I'll start filling my ziplock bags with bits. I will conquer this tranny.

I think I want a 5 gallon bucket of gasoline to wash all this stuff in.

Yeah, the impact socket and air impact wrench, it was off in less than 3 seconds. Experience can sometimes be taken for granted.

Look at the gobs of loctite on the pump bolts



So, the front pump was in pieces before I opened it up.


Look at how hot the K1 got!!!

Are you sure that isn't a self made grinding paste?

It looks like you'll be buying some expensive parts to replace the self machined ones...
