New to me - 89 300E

Picked up a fairly well maintained 300E.

Just over 100 mile drive and for most of the drive ran at ~78C. Ran very well on the flats and up over the ridges.

Right now, 125,600 on her. Needs a few things but the prior owner/s
were not real mechanical.

Gonna have to start a new collection of MB parts as Im not finding
many of my 300D parts fit.

Nice car. Probably won't need much as the mileage is very low. May need head gasket around the 150-200k mark, which is a fairly easy job.

Best bit of advice would be to kiss the redline from time to time, and always verify your mpg with every fill up. You should expect very low 20's mixed driving.

W124 manual

Seems to be a decent manual to answer lots of the 'new to W124's' questions.
Even has lots of pictures for those like me, reading impaired.

This one ranges $45 to $60 on ebay unless you find an owned but seemingly unused one that with shipping was under $20.

For most issues I agree. I have found a couple already that no search pattern seems to bring up.

What issues are you having? I'll look around for that book, I think I have it somewhere. Last year I bought the workshop manuals for the w124 and have not used it since.

If I have it it will be yours on the cheap.

Great offer but I got that book for under $20.
Little things like where on the fuel pressure regulator the
vacuum line goes from the air cleaner to the valve cover.

Nice car Bob - good to see some pictures of it.

As for the book have a look at the W201 FSM on startekinfo.com - when you get to component level a lot of the parts are the same. You'll often find specific W124 information intermingled with the W201 data.

TnBob, actually the line you mention from the fuel regulator to the valve cover isn't a vacuum line, but a dump line for gas if the diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator fails. It prevents gas from being dumped directly on the engine and possibly starting a fire under the hood. The line runs from the short black rubber connector on the fuel pressure regulator to the hole in the air intake boot between the air filter housing and the valve cover.

TnBob, the fuel pressure regulator is mounted on top of the intake manifold, in front of the fuel distributor. So you need 12" or so of the line to reach the air intake boot.

4 new window switches of the right part numbers for left and right took care of
all the window switch / window issues.

Apparently from the pic, I am not the only one to have vacuum line issues from the air cleaner.

Been finding alot of to me, worse than shade tree mechanic items. New exhaust system without hangers as an example. Pelican helped there for cheeep.

Front end center link has seen far better days.

At least she is tight and quiet on the road. Dry and warm too.
