Unhappy rear wheel clanging noise

anyone,
please help.
i have a 1980 mbz 280se that has had an awful clanging and grumbling noise in the right rear wheel.
it comes and goes.
i have redone the parking brake assembly and the bearings replaced but still does it.
my mechanic cannot find the problem.
anyone that has experienced this, please respond with remedy.
thank you.

You replaced the bearings and you can't find the clanging noise?

Or

You had someone replace the bearings on the rear wheel and they couldn't find the clanging noise?

That sounds really strange - changing the rear wheel bearings is quite an involved job that needs to be done by a competent person with at least one special tool. My point is that someone who has done this job should be able to notice if

1) the anti roll bar links are buggered
2) the axle was knackered when they removed it to replace the bearing
3) there is something loose on the trailing arm
4) the trailing arm is damaged
5) the other side of the car needs attention too

(I could probably think of some more if you want)
