Were all 722.4 created equal?

I have a 1994 C280 sitting at my warehouse that needs a transmission. I believe it would have a 722.424. The car will not move at all until the transmission warms up, you can rev the motor up and it barely does anything. But once it warms up the car will move, and it will shift through all four gears though, you feel it shudder 2-3 and 3-4. The car has 275,000 miles on the original trans.

I have a 722.438 from a 1997 E300D with around 130k on it that is good, it drove to the scene of the crash.

Can a diesel 722.4 be used in a gas car? I'd assume I'd have to swap bowden cables and the rear mounts and possibly the modulator.

Is the gearing really all that different between the two?

To the best of my knowledge

1) The actual gearing is the same
2) The valve bodies are going to be different
3) The governor is likely to be different
4) Torque converter probably different
5) Vacuum dashpot will be different

You need to get a book worm to check this all out for you in the (non CD) FSM though - or chapter 27 in WIS

First thing first. You said the E300D is a 722.438? 1997 was the introduction of the 722.6. Make sure it isn't a 722.6.

Second the 1997 E300D NA received a 3.46 rear-end ratio. While this 1994 C280 is a 2.87 ratio.

I mistyped. Its a 1996 drivetrain.

We have two 1997 E300s and bought this spare low miled drivetrain but the transmission is no good for the E300s. So I need a trans for this C280 and realized they are both 722.4s.
