power window regulator--Test motor?
Right rear window quit working, I could get it to move up a little but not down. Took the panel off and found what looks to me to be a warped up window regulator mechanisam--unscrewed the motor and by using the switch (used a known good one) the motor would turn when I pushed up, but would not work when switch is in down position. I can't understand why it works one way and not the other.
I am ordering new regulator. does this mean I need a window motor also? |

Try spraying the motor and associated bits with WD40, also have you made sure that its not the switch thats worn out?

power window
Door switch was working on other side, pulled it to test right side window. Motor is free as a bird, goes when switch is in up position but not in down position.
Console switch will not move window up or down. Can this affect the door switch? |

What kind of car? Some of the MBs have the regulator and motor made together.

With the door panel off, locate the terminal block that the motor wires go to. Disconnect the wires and use a battery charger to checck the motor. just reverse polarity for up and down. If you r window doesn't move in one direction, listen for the motor noise. I hope this will help isolate the problem. On my model the console switch will not operate if the door switch is bad or not installed.

BINGO!!! Now I am really confused, I hooked up the battery charger and window motor works perfectly! I was using a 12 volt battery before. Why will a charger work and not battery?
Does this mean that the console switch is not letting the door switch activate in the down position? |

You probably have a half bad switch or possibly a broken wire, most likely in the door hinge area. Try cleaning the switches with some electrical contact cleaner. I know the console will not operate the windows if the door switch is bad. Also clean and re-seat connectors.
