M104 Valve cover removal/replacment

Just out of curiosity, is it hard to remove and replace the valve cover on an M104? Particualrily for a 1992 300CE 3.0 litre engine.

Since my car is outta comission for a few weeks, I want to possibly take off the cover, give it a good ol cleaning, check my valve clearances and all while I am at it.

I know I will have ot replace a gasket. I also have the CD manuals.

Does it involve a lot or is it fairly simple to do? I wouldn't mind pulling mine to clean the outside and give it some nice powdercoating or a nice new paint finish on it to make it look just nicer.

Just thinking of doing this though, I havent decided if I will or not, but was thinking it would make for a fun weekend project.

I've done valve covers on an MGB and a Chevy V-8, but those were real easy to do. The benz just looks well more involved than just undoing some bolts and popping that sucker off.

No problem. Start by removing the intake crossover tube above the engine. Then pry up the plastic strip down the center of the cover. There is a front cover too. Then remove the bolts that hold it down. I think the coils come loose when you un do the bolts under the cover. Then the plug wires must come off the plugs too. I haven't done it for a while, but I remember it being pretty easy, no real tricks.

cool, sounds like aplan then.

Mine does nto have the intake crossing over. it has the older intake. The 93 up M104 had the cross over intake to the seperate air box. mine sits on top of the FI
