Retired...

My 95 E320 wagon got a new set of Bridgestones approximately 5000 miles ago. Today I noticed that the right rear tire is...well lets put it this way...Lincoln's head don't touch the thread. As a matter of fact the rim of the penny just barely gets covered with tire thread depth.
The other three tires are in great shape...what could be this new adventure?
Wagon has almost 250,000 miles and runs great. Suspension is not bouncy...nitrogen canisters are tight...air pressure to specs...

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the rear alignment is out of whack. Needs a complete inspection done.

Look for missing/worn rubber bushings on the rear suspension links.

My bet would be on the rear lower control arm bushings

These are the ones that mount in the suspension upright that the suspension arm bolts to. Pelican lists them under part number 204-352-00-27.

I had a similar problem with my wagon. Does yours squeak going over speedbumps even in the slightest? If so this is for sure the culprit.

The parts are inexpensive, and if you want to DIY borrow the factory tool, which is available through the tool rental link.

Have not noticed any squeaking...I will look for it though.

Amazing how that tire just wore out...never seen that before!

Thank you all for your answers.

Cheers!

When was the last time you had the car analyzed and inspected by an ASE/MB mechanic shop??

That's a lot of miles not to expect something like this to develop/happen.

I spend a lot of money on my Mercedes-Benzes, esp. as they age - as I'm certain that it pays off in the long run of ownership.

Has someone been drag racing in your car?

Is there a secrect council in Goodyear, Arizona that targets tire brands that don't toe the party line?

Is tire pressure the same in all 4 tires?
