190e/W201 Fan Clutch Problems.
Since the summer began, we've been having some slight overheating issues with the '84 190e. I say slight, because it's only in heavy traffic, creeping up to 100 and sometimes slightly above.
I've read on here that others have had similar problems with the fan clutch switch on the thermostat housing. I did the test for the fan clutch switch, jumpering the connector, and the fan clutch still doesn't grab. I don't hear a click or any change at all.
I have two questions for further investigation:
Does the fan clutch have its own relay? If so, where is it located?
I figure that if there is a relay, perhaps power just isn't getting to the fan clutch.
Is there a test I can do for the fan clutch itself? Like hooking it up to a battery. Just to see if it's functioning and if I'm on a wild electrical goose chase.
If I had the money, I'd probably replace everything in line for posterity's sake. But with a few more month's of hot weather, I need this old girl to run cooler for me.
