Does anybody know if I can put a 1977-1984 240D manual tranny on my 1981 300D (Grey)
car? Where can I find myself if it bolts on? Thanks John ps I live in Southern Cali |

Yes, it is 4 speed manual 300D, I tried to find the tranny vin but could not see it from under the car . I only see the following
MERCEDES BENZ R617 014 03 02 I tried the local dealer's parts person but either he did not want to or did not know what this no is. I will try again to see if I can find anotehr no or I will wait to drop the tanny and see if there is a no but cannot be seen from under the car.( any ideas?) |

I will ask and old timer that works with me who knows the older cars very, very well.

The 1980 thru 1883 240D used almost the same transmission as your (euro) 300D. Possibly the output flange is smaller.
