M103 hard starting inthe mornings
Good day Guys.
Have been having the morning blues trying to start this car and its been very difficult. Its turns over strongly and chugs but doesn't keep up. I need assistance to remedy this problem as this is getting to me. ![]() |

When did you last replace the ignition parts (plugs, cap and rotor)? My bet is that upon replacement you'll find a car that starts much easier in the mornings.

Check fuel pressure. The check valve can fail, causing a loss of pressure.
The fuel pump will run for a few seconds when you turn on the key. Until the car sees the crank moving, the fuel pump does not run. Try cycling the key a number of times prior to trying to start to bring up the fuel pressure and see if that helps. Jim

There are three current threads on this subject. A prime suspect is the fuel accumulator. Search for a thread started by me a couple of years ago - fuel accumulator failure analysis that describes an easy on-the-car test for and photos of the dissected accumulator showing cracks in the elastomeric diaphragm that caused the internal leak preventing the fuel pumps from building up pressure without excessive cranking and rough operation for several seconds after the engine fires.
The problem can be intermittent, but becomes progressively worse and can evenutally keep the car from starting. Duke |

92-2.6 Thumbs up Your right .And its the first thing i would do in this case . Rotor arm first as it the cheapest part .Then to follow wires and then a dist cap.

Hi Guys.
92 2.6 the ignition system was replaced last year on engine change including new rotor.. Jim Freeh and Duke 2.6 your analysis could be right as it starts good at times and then next time it gives me the creeps. I think i will replace the accumulator. Thanks for our help. |

Rather than replace it, do the simple test I outlined in my thread on the subject. Replace it if it leaks.

m103 Hard starting in the mornings.
Hi Guys.
I did the ignition switch on/off a few times before starting and it worked everytime. Seems to be the accumulator not maintaining the pressure so until I replace it will do the key rotation thing as a temporary solution. ![]() |

M103 Hard starting in the mornings.
Hi Guys.
I tried the Ignition switch rotation action and it worked every time. Seems to be the accumulator not maintaining the pressure on start attempts. So until I replace it I will do the key thing. Thanks for your help. ![]() |

Did you do the test that Duke has been talking about?

m103 hard starting
Hi Guys.
Been busy over the weekend and never got the opportunity to check y'all out. So far I no longer have that starting problem as long as I did the ignition switch maneuver ![]() ![]() |
