1993 400e Power Steering pump replacement

I am replacing my PS pump on my 400e
I have everything apart to the 4 bolts that mount the pump

They are hex head bolts that come in from BEHIND the pump...who designed this !??

I can see the two outer bolts coming in from behind...but I have been unable to figure out what tool, or combo of tools is needed to get on the head, and have the room to turn it.

I cant even see the other two inner bolts..
so ANY help is appreciated here

THANKS!!

I'm assuming you're trying to remove the pump with its bracket as an assembly. If not, do that, but without a collection of wrenches with different offsets and origins you will find the task is near impossible.

You need to remove the pump and mounting bracket as an assembly. Two bolts on the front and two bolts on the back. The back bolts are accessed from under the car with a long extension and wobble socket.

I hope this helps.

OK I see what you are saying

I have all the bolts holding the bracket off, besides the interior from-behind bolt

Any suggestions where to start from under to reach this last bolt?

I also did some more searching, and found this post here

You cant even see it , with your left hand on long extension with universal joint attached feel for the bolt and guide your socket onto bolt, you insert socket around motor mount area with long extension, hex head 13mm if my memory is correct

Good morning, If the car is on a lift you can see that bolt if you look in the right spot but it is difficult. Like MBdoc said in that other post this is probably one of the most difficult ps pumps to r&r, but it can be done.
You will need a long extension possibly two and a 13mm wobble socket.

Like was mentioned in that other post, are you sure it's the pump leaking and not just the hose between the reservoir and the pump?

That hose can be replaced without removal of the pump. They are bad about leaking. If the inside of the drive pulley on the pump is dry and dusty then odds are the pump is not leaking.

This is what I use, the extension is 24" and the wobble extension is 12".

I hope this helps, Robert
