1991 Mercedes 500SL Ignition cylinder switch removal

Good evening all

I have a new to me a 1991 Mercedes 500SL and I am trying to replace the ignition electrical switch. My question is hot to release the switch from the housing. The ignition switch housing I have is all metal and not part plastic? I can find plenty of videos on the plastic housing and the release button.

This has the round cylinder that pivots on the square steering lock correct?

If so, turn the key to accessory or maybe run, push on both pivots then pull the round cylinder from the square lock.

For most any system regardless of brand, the key must be turned in order to take this apart and there will be some sort if pin that needs to be pressed.

Thank you to you both. I think there appears to be a difference between the metal and plastic housings. I will try what you said and see. I'll report back...
