It sounds like this could be the source of my problems as well as the connector plate. Watched a youtube showing R&R of connector plate and while it won't be easy for me with my bad leg, it's do-able.

Will have to do more research on the shifter and find someone with a code reader....

Should I still find someone to read the codes or is the C/S missing from the Odometer display enough to make you confident it's the ECM?

ALWAYS read codes before performing ant expensive and/or time consuming repair. A dealer or indy equipped with an SDS wouls be the way to go.

Thanks, getting close to having the codes read - called Ammco & was told they have the reader that reads back to MB's made from around 2000 until now. I'm going to make payment ($50) dependent on getting a code and log to tell me what the problem is. thx for the help!
