722.6 pan gasket

Hi Folks;

Vehicle is a 1999 C230K with the 722.6 transmission.

I couldn't find an answer to this question: when you replace the gasket on the transmission pan do you wet the pan gasket mating surfaces with transmission oil or install it dry? It is my understanding that all rubber (or deformable) gaskets should be wetted to help improve the seal.

Thanks for your advice.

Cheers!

722.6 service completed

Thanks for the help. The rest of the service went well. Wetted the electrical connector O-rings and it went in with a strong push. No leaks but could only get the transmission to 60 deg C (ambient temperature is only about 5 C) after a 20 min drive. The oil level was just over half way between the 25C mark and the 80C mark so, by interpolation, the oil level appears reasonably correct. I'll check the transmission when it warms outside a bit more.

Cheers,
Tassie

petroleum jelly works better as a gasket assistant or rubber O ring lubricant.

722.6 oil cooler line banjo fitting torque setting

Thanks, I put it all together and have no problems except for a very minor leak where the oil cooler line is attached to the transmission housing (passenger/starboard side). I have the two copper washers and banjo fitting to replace but need to know the torque setting for this. It appears to be 36 ft-lb but not sure. Can anyone verify?

Thanks,
Tassie

Replaced the banjo fitting and two copper crush washers. Hardly any fluid came out. Used 20 ft-lb to tighten. The fitting is dry after starting and running through the gears. Will check again over time.
