99 E320 wagon trans problems

I was getting ready to stick a new(used/known good) 722.6 in my buddies new(to him) wagon.
It has only 114,xxx miles and is in overall good shape.
I’ve heard of the stake coming loose and the nut backing off the output shaft flange, but I had never seen it until today.
Re installed it and torqued it down and restaked it, and it drives now.
