I am about to buy a 1986 190e with a burnt valve (the price is low). 130,000 miles and everything else works and is in good shape. The estimate to repair is $800 from the local M-B dealer. I am a non-mechanical type and would appreciate any feedback as to what a "burnt valve" is, what else it might mean, why I am making a big mistake, etc. Thanks for your help.

When the cyl head is off for the valve job repair, be sure the timming chain is properly checked and the oil spray nozzle update has been done. BE SURE TO HAVE THE WORK DONE BY A SHOP YOU CAN TRUST!
