190E idle control valve
1987 190E 2.0L.
The ICV on my car bolts to the cylinder head, has two wires (black/white with red rings and the other is brown), I got an ICV from another '87 190e 2.0L,this one is a bosch that sits on the inlet manifold. I am able to conect it all up okay except this one has three electrical pins numbered one two and three. What I would like to know is how do I connect the wiring? (The car I got the valve off was already missing the wiring loom) Is it possible to make this work? would it be better or should I just try to get a valve exactly like the one on my car? Hope somebody can help, Thanks in advance. |

Just at a guess, your current idle control may use the Bosch 'auxiliary air device'. This monitors engine temp and adjusts air bypassing the throttle plate accordingly. It is a thermo-mechanical device which has an electric heater, but does not use any ECU input.
The ICV you are trying to install is a rotary variable air valve which is controlled directly by the ECU. Using this as a replacement would at least involve replacing the ECU and wiring harness, and then there is the issue of the engine speed sensor... I stress, this is a guess. Posting pics would help clarify for us. Steve

Thanks for the reply Steve,
you're right about my aux air controller, I checked the ecu from the doner car and it is the same part number as mine so am assuming it will be fine. I've found out that two of the connections go to pins 3 & 4 on the ecu. I thought maybe there would be an advantage to upgrade to the later idle controller, was it changed due to a weakness with the controller I have. |
