Biodegradable wiring?

Hi,

Did a 1999 Mercedes E320 use biodegradable wring?

I have searched online and get conflicting information. Some sites say yes, others say no.

Thinking about buying one, I know the paint was not of the best quality on some of the 1990s Mercedes but was curious about the wiring also.

Thanks!

This...

W124/R129 should be the last of them. But technically, any wiring can fail under poor conditions.

Yes, the 1999 Mercedes-Benz E320 can have biodegradable wiring insulation, but it depends on the exact production period and whether it has already been repaired or updated. Mercedes used biodegradable (eco-friendly) wiring insulation mainly in the early-to-mid 1990s, especially in models built roughly between 1992 and 1996. By 1999, most of those issues had been resolved at the factory, so the majority of E320s from that year did not suffer from the same widespread wiring harness deterioration seen in earlier cars like the W124 and early W210 models.

AI is wrong, Mercedes stopped using biodegradable wiring in 1997.
