My AC (300TE) has never blown cold air since my ownership of the car (2 years-bought with 107K miles). I am wondering if I should just recharge the AC with Freon ? Does Freon usually leak with time or is it likely that that the system has experienced some form of component failure. I am only seeking probabilities since I dont want to simply recharge the system if these cars suffer from system problems at 100K+ miles or so. Please make recommendations. Incidentally, I cant put much money into this project at all-in fact might have to spend the summer without AC !

The A/C can leak from many, many different places. The best thing is to have it leak checked at a shop. Be careful to check the expansion vavle and the evaporator core for leaks.
