What I assume is the original muffler on my '88 190E has completely corroded at the inlet connection. Rather than take it to Midas, or the local MB dealership, I'd like to repair this myself. The drawback? I don't have access to welding equipment, and it appears all the connections have been welded. Is it possible, or recommended, to buy an aftermarket muffler with inlet piping, and splice it with a clamped splicing piece?
