The diesel will burn oil all day long without hurting the engine. You just have to keep it full. Check it when you fill up the fuel tank or every other time. Just keep it full of oil to avoid major enigne damage. The dealer is only responsible for the oil comsupiton if it is coming from the valve guides. If it is the bottom end, it should be on your dime. Sorry. My advise is to keep an eye on the level and let it ride! Good luck.
