Another thumbs down for lee's garage

About a year and a half ago, my cousin started to notice rust around the trunk lock of his 99 E320. He took it to the dealer (I believe david michael in freehold), and they determined that it was covered by the 100k mile corrosion warranty.

They reffered him to Lee's Garage for the repair. He dropped the car off, and when he got it back, the E320 chrome badging was on the wrong side of the trunk (right instead of left), and about an inch too low.

When he mentioned he wasn't happy with that because a) it was a telltale sign that the car was in an accident or has had paintwork, and b) it looks stupid.

They were like what's the big deal, bla bla bla, but finally agreed to take care of the problem, and told him to leave the car and come back and get it tomorrow.

When he went back tomorrow, the badging had been moved BUT looking at the car from certain angles revealed another problem. There was an impression or a shadow of the e320 emblem on the right side where the the badge had been mistakenly placed. Apparently they applied the badging while the clear was still a bit wet, and it left an impression. They said this was in his head, and that they already spent too much time on his car, and refused to do anymore. After some complaining at the dealer, who basically made it seem like he was lucky they honored the warranty in the first place, he ended up getting the trunk re clear coated at another shop in the Hamilton area, and all is well again.

Lee's Garage has a great reputation for some reason, and it MAY be the case that they do top notch work on certain cars (either people paying through the nose for custom work, or cars they are really into), but it seems like for smaller jobs, they rush it through, and don't really want to help.

If you're in the central Jersey area, there is a guy that I have personally seen great work. Auto body by Gary Betsy, small shop on rt 156 in yardville, but the guy is top notch. E-mail me if you want more info.

Take care,

George
