I recently had a pre-purchase inspection performed on a 1986 2.3-16V. One of the outcomes was a note that said, "self-leveling system fluid reservoir empty". QUESTIONS: Does just filling the reservoir "re-activate" the system? Is the pump self-priming? How does one know/test to see that the system is indeed operational?
Thanks in advance for responses! Brian16V |

If reservoir was empty, there was a leak. Period.com. That goop doesn't evaporate at all, so I'd want to know where the fluid went.
In terms of testing the system, I would simply put a considerable amount of weight in the trunk (say, 4-5 bags of sand) and then drive the car a short bit...is the rear sagging at the end of the ride? 'Cuz it shouldn't be... ------------------ Best regards, Michael '92 500E '88 300TE [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 01-20-2000).] |

It did go somewhere. The pump and the accumulators should be tested. I replaced the accumulators on mine. What a difference it made!!
