What manual transmission fluid should be used for 1981 240D?

Dear friends:

According to Haynes manual, the proper fluid for this car's manual transmission is Type A ATF. However, it seems that some people here either use REGULAR engine oil (what grade?) or even gear oil (90).

So what's the best fluid to be used for a 1981 240D's manual transmission?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Eric

Consider what Larry Bible had to say in this post:

Based on Larry B's recommendation I am running the Mobile 1, 10-30 and have not had any problems with it.
