How does one replace the fuel filter on a 300e?

Hello All,
I am currently in the process of trying to replace the fuel filter for my 87 300e. I got the filter and got the cover off, but when I went to disconnect the filter it wouldn't budge. I tried to use wrenches to loosen the 17mm fitting that connect the filter to the rubber hose on one side, but to no avail. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks
Scott
