I'm sure I am re-hashing an old topic but I don't recall seeing any answers to previous problems.
My roof works perfectly but rattles when fully closed. The "metal" rattling sound goes away if I push up on the sunroof liner on the driverside's rear corner. I need some direction on getting this fixed. Is there a screw I need to tighted, a clip to replace, something anything I can do on my own to eliminate this poison to my ears? Thanks Mike |

I have the same problem and if I remember correctly "bdrought" had the same problem too, but nobody had the solution.

Thanks for the "no news" MP....I was really hoping for someone to say it is a quick fix. I am not terribly upset since there's nothing wrong with the roof, just slowly going crazy from the rattle.
I guess that's what a loud radio is for, huh? Thanks again for your reply, I appreciate it!! M |

O.K. When it's open is it noisy? Are you sure it's fully closed? There are rollers and followers in the tracks on these sunroofs that lever them into the closed position when the mechanism reaches the end of it's travel. I had this problem on my BMW. A screw had fallen out of the track arm on the driver's side and the roof was not able to lock in the closed position. It looked closed but it really wasn't. Biggest problem fixing it was removing the headliner material from the panel to get at the loose screw.

Hi Jeff,
Yeah the roof is fully closed. When I first bought the car I did clean the crevices of the sunroof (looking down from the top). Among somes leaves and an old piece of gum, I pulled out a thing made of felt, maybe? No nuts, bolts, or screws that I can see. From the naked eye and a lot of poking around everything seems to be in place. I've never taken off the liner or unscrewed anything in the roof (probably can't put it back together in one piece) Thanks for help you can extend! Mike |

Can you feel anything when you push up? If your pushing eliminates the rattle, you have found the source of the problem. Now remains the task of eliminating the gremlin. You will need to detach that corner of the headliner on the sunroof and I think if you apply the same finger pressure in the same area, the problem will give itself away. Remember, be methodical and you will win the ultimate victory...

One more question before I do that. How do I take the liner off? Can I simply pull down on it until it comes off? Never did this before so I need a little direction.
Hope I'm not troubling you with this minor issue. Just gotta stop that rattle somehow. Once again I appreciate your expertise! Mike |

Don't pull on it. With the roof in the tipped position, you should be able to feel the fabric retainers on the upper edge of the inner panel. These can be lifted up to free the liner material. DO NOT disassemble this component anymore than you have to.

I will try to do just that in a day or two. Hopefully my next post will say "the rattle is gone!"
Thx Jeff Mike |
