Oil Change

If you use Mobile 1, you could go 10K miles between oil change. I use 5-30 and 15-50 grades, have not seen the difference, sometime I blend them. Oil reservoir for my '96 E320 is 7.4 qts so 10K oil interval change is OK, earlier than that you just waste your money and pollute our earth

Duong's Lecture

<>

First of all, it's Mobil, not Mobile which is a city in Alabama. And if you are using 5W30 in your 124, good luck to you. As for the rest of it, it's clear you are not an oils Engineer. And I don't appreciate the finger wagging lecture. Finally, the oil drained from my cars is all recycled.

O.K. Thanks for all your input gentlemen. I suppose I didn't state my question clearly enough.
I was trying to see if using Dino Oil in my 98-E320 is safe for the car at 5000 mile oil change interval. Which in turn would lead to $160 saving per year if using synthetic (I am changing at 5K mile anyway) as I don't trust the FSS totally

However, I think we should put this thread to rest if we start getting into a major argument.

Well yes and no, oil could be recycled, the base stock never wears out only the additives. So if it was filtered and more additives were added fine you could run the same oil forever. But must used oil is burned as bunker fuel in large ships. Used oil has a little value thats why places take it for free.

I would not run dino oil more than 3000 miles without oil analysis, while I do recommend running synthetics 6000 or more miles between changes. Pays off the first time you don't have to replace a camshaft!

Just read the spec's on M-B 229.1.
I believe it answers your question.

What a boring thread. I think it should be renamed "oil change horror stories"

Like the time I changed the oil on a womans car and got nothing when pulling the drain plug. Had to use a screwdriver to dislodge the sludge from the bottom of the pan to get it to flow.

Hell, I can beat that.
A few years ago, while waiting for my car at the local Ford dealer, I watched an Explorer come in for an " oil change ".
40k miles on the odometer, original filter on the engine.
The dealer installed a NEW engine as a " good will " gesture, because the vehicle belonged to a " prefered " customer.

Too bad that you took it personally... It's an opinion, not a lecture. I am not an oil engineer, but I am a chemical engineer who have been working in this field for almost 30 yrs and deal with polymers, chemicals and CoF (if you know what it is). So, please take it as my personal opinion, no more no less, and I have no intend to offend anyone. We are all here to pass on opinion and info to others who may want to use it. In my company, we are very "data driven" ... So I don't shoot things off my hip.

Many... Thanks. I don't apologize to anybody here. I just feel sorry for some insecure people who do not appreciate information from others

I change the oil every 2000 KM (1243.00807955 Miles) for my 560SEL 1989.
I use normal Titan 15/40 oil.
