Finally seemed to fix the problem with my high idle. My mechanic replaced an electronic module under the front passenger floor... it has the words VDO on it (not sure of the part # as it's not in front of me). Not cheap, but fixed.

My emission problem was fixed with a new catalytic converter. Also not cheap, but fixed.

Just hope this can answer any future questions that may come up.
