on my 97 S500, when i use the auto up function on the window, it stops 1/4 from close and backs down two inches. no problems with auto down. this problem is intermittent. maybe 50% of the time it does this. have to close it the old fashion way, keep finger on switch till closed. any ideas on what might be wrong? TIA.

Maybe it wants you to get some fresh air . Seriously, there is a relay and timing circuit associated with that function. I believe that it's located in the door, but I'm not sure. It sounds like the relay or the timer is out of whack. Maybe Steve or Donnie can get more specific.

Mine is doing exactly as described above also. I'll keep searching the forum, but this thread was my only match on my first search.

There's a procedure in your Owners Manual that gets the windows "synced".
If it continues to do this, you may want to check your battery. When it gets 'weak', it can cause the windows to loose sync. |

I'll try that on mine, but it is more likely that the window is binding. Right at the time that the window stops there is a thunk/clunk sound. It is not very loud, but only happens on that window and only when it is acting up.

That's a failed window regulator must likely. If it "clunks", it's a h/w failure.

Yep. The windows are designed to reverse themselves if they encounter an obstruction (like a body part) when they go up automatically. So your window is either binding in the channel somewhere or the regulator must be shot.

If the auto up is working at all (pressing the switch to the
second position, then let go, and the window goes on), then the window is synced. If the window then stops by itself, it is because it is going up slower than the convenience control module expects. For a non-binding window, that will be because there is something in the way, the security feature. A binding regulator will behave the same way.
