CHEEEEEAP one
Got my '82 300d turbo for $1000. Steering was a little loose: had my man Busby do a tie rod, ~$100 installed.
It's ugly; losing clear coat on hood and roof, faded, has a rip in the driver's seat, cracks in the dash. But everything works, including A/C (great this HOT summer), excluding cruise (which I'm not bothering with). Whoever says a cheap Benz cost the most was wrong on this one; I've had it since last October with no issues. Cross the fingers and maintain, maintain, maintain! |

83 240D and 92 300D 2.5 Turbo
83 240D $740
Spent a good while figuring out that the PO didn't have a clue about the vacuum routing for the transmission he had just put in. Which is why I got it cheap. Have spent about $500 on it so far - WVO kit (FPHE and Injector line heaters), tranny filter, fuel filters, etc. No major work except fixing up the vacuum, replacing the brake master cylinder, and refurbishing the front brake calipers. 92 300D 2.5 Turbo $3350 I think this was a deal. We didn't know what it was really worth when we bought it. Anyway, it runs great. Had a few minor issues which took a while to find - leak in vac modulator cap made the gears shift hard (which is I think why we got it cheap - hard shifts - PO thought tranny was going out). Also replaced 4 hydraulic lifters, although Mobil 1 syth oil had actually fixed the problem. But it was still clacking - turned out to be a bad injector nozzle. Also the Vacuum transducer went out and the turbo stopped. But I swapped it with the EGR transducer and works fine now. I figure I can live without EGR. Gets 35 mpg average. Love it. |

I just (2 moths ago) picked up an 82 240D 4 speed with only 52K original miles. White with tan int. Bought it from the original owner for $6000. Has all the original documentation. I was driving it home and looking around inside and noticed a black cassette in the becker deck, I popped it in and it said "welcome to your new stereophonic becker sound system" it was the original owners familiarization tape for the deck!
A little high for an 82 but the car is in like new cond, inside and out! The only things I've had to do so far are the normal old 123 items. Even though the car has been garraged most of its life the rubber around the front and rear windows have dried out and shrunk up a small bit over the years so I had them replaced, flushed the PS fluid, brake fluid ect ect. Also this year came with a PLASTIC factory gas tank. I kept smelling fuel in the car, especially when I would fill up. Someone told me that mercedes issued a service bulletin for that car to get rid of the plastic tank so I changed out the plastic tank to a custom Long Range aluminum tank made for the car that I had lying around. I debated on keeping the car 100% stock but i ended up installing the long range tank (39gal and it looks pretty factory in the trunk once the carpet and backing board are re-installed) and installing a new radio in place of the becker (I kept all the original items also and won't do anything to the car thats not easily reversable). So far I'm super happy with the car, I was looking at buying a new honda civic and now I'm glad that I found the 240D. The 240 is a very comfortable relaxing car to drive. Hodakaguy |

Bought mine in August this year and paid $3527 on ebay. Had 217K miles then. "Rust free". Very happy with the car - just working through 'details' like most of us!
Everything works - generally. Floor vents and center vents as well as the cruise control are minor issues I'm dealing with...

'84 300TD paid $3700.00 about two weeks ago. Needs work, odds and ends, just did filters and hand prime pump. Found exhast leak smell from the air cleaner bolt being broken resulting in down tube separation from bottom of air cleaner. Now I need to find the oil leaks all over the engine. I love it and it drives nice. Plan on burning B100. 297,700K. Oh well, I like working on it.....

82 300D Turbodiesel & 95 E320 Wagon
Hi All,
I bought my '82 300D Turbodiesel in '03 with 250k miles on it for $2k. I invested about $1k, mainly on suspension rubber bushings, motor mounts, oil lines, new brake lining, drive shaft flex disc, an extra $500 on a half shaft that went out on the way to Las Vegas. Else, HE is the best of the best, just keeps purring.....@ 288k miles I just bought a '95 E320 Wagon with 98k miles on it for $8200, plus taxes, fees, registration. The Acura dealer who had it taken in as a trade had listed $12,500 KBB asking $9,950. They made me work for a few hours. Eventually they agreed including fixing the driver seat which didn't move back properly. The car is a real nice 1 owner vehicle, extremely clean in and out (found after 2 years of looking). I should mention, out here in Cali everything is priced more than anywhere else, over the top, so to speak. But then again, considering an out of state internet deal, unseen, plus flying there and/or transport cross country.... Unfortunately, the dealer failed to provide maintenance history/records. I have seen the carfax though, showing it being turned in regularly. If anyone could help with a hint on how to obtain maintenance history through VIN# research..... I appreciate any input! Thanks,

1984 300sd
I recently purchased a 1984 300sd for $3200. It had 149K miles. The car look pretty good. The paint is not fading, but there are some light scratches on the trunk lid. I didn't noticed the transmission flaring on the test drive. If I would have noticed it, I would have not bought the car. I wouldn't have know this was a common occurence. Thanks to the great people on this forum, I have made some adjustments to fix it, but I still have some work to do until it's perfect.
I am working (actually toying) on the car every weekend I have available fixing little things. It's great to be able to work on a car again. It's not like the 21st century cars I have to take to the shop for a good reaming .It was probably a fair deal for a California car. It's tough to find one with everything working and looking good for this price.

I bought an 87 300E last year for $2000, with 60,000 original miles. I spent about a week underneath it bringing all the rubber up to speed, and it now feels as solid as day one. I am pleased.... What a great car!
Cheers, Peter 1987 300E |
