Paid about $10 000 for the 2.3 16v and it had 200 000kms on it... i was screwed, the car looked in perfect condition till i owned it for a month and was forced to pay some top coin for repairs!(dont buy from Miracle AutoSales in Burnaby BC, canada... they will make you bend over and touch ur toes with your pants on the floor.)
And i paid $0 for my 250c. it was a gift... that is going to cost me alot of money to get into respectable shape... haha! so yes.. paying $0 for my 250c was forsure worth it.

In October I traded an inspected and running 1993 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer for a 1987 190E 2.6L and $100. The 190 runs and drives but needs a left rear fender and tail light. It has 122,000 miles and a salvage certificate. I'm happy with the deal but won't know for sure until the car is titled and driven.

500sel
Bought 1982 500SEL 3 month ago (2007) for $1500, car is is good body and interior shape. since then I have spent $3000 rebuilding the front end and new timing chain, plus a multitude of other small parts, that previous owner did not spend the time to fix. With all regular maintenance done. Car has 150k miles...Have been pretty successful getting good replacement parts off eBay and thru the internet in general.

95 E320
I did sort of a trade, I had an 01 expedition, starting to give me trouble, and I traded it for a 95 E320. Both had around 175,000 miles on them. I payed $15 for new reg tabs. The man put new tires on my expedition and sold it for $5995.00 , which is what he was asking for the E320. I believe it was a good deal for me as the increased fuel economy, the Mercedes is easier to work on, not to mention the Mercedes technology, and heated seats.

I guess I'll jump in here too. I paid $1400 for my 87 300E back in May of this year. Since then I have changed a lot of components to get it running good and to stay running. Put on all new brake rotors and pads and one frozen caliper was replaced.
Last week I dropped $1100 into it to get some major rust fixed on the driver side rear door. My body guy found that it had previous damage there and the fix was not correct. They pulled the dents and left behind 56 holes in the door............covered it with mud and painted,,,,,,,,walaa! RUST! So my body shop fixed it the right way and it looks absolutely awesome! They also fixed a spot under the left tail light. I have the crystal tail lights. Totally modernizes the rear of the car. I haven't totaled receipts yet, but it is probably around $3400 spread over the last 6 months. I love this car and I feel it is worth every penny spent on it! Even being 21 years old it evokes a lot of comments from my friends and customers at work. They cannot believe it is 21 years old! Sam

1998 E320 4matic
I bought my black 98 e320 4matic last year with 77k miles for $13,000. I love it and it came with a two year warranty which I've used once to replace a torn axel boot- other than that it's great. Fully loaded (for 1998) and so pretty.

Got my 85 300DT for $1750 this year (2007).
Completely rust free body, two-tank WVO system, and my MB mechanic says the engine runs nice and strong for 287K miles. As for drawbacks, it needed new tires, new fuel lines, trans adjustment, new hood release, and a stereo. I still need to get around to cleaning out the main fuel tank and figuring out some other minor quirks.
