I just purchased a 1998 slk. the automatic locking system doesn't work, the lights flash when remote is pressed but no locks open or close. I chked that all doors are closed properly. Also the interior light won't turn off in the middle position. I chkd fuses in trunk and all are fine.. any ideas?? Thank you.

I've seen lots of SLK's with water damaged PSE pumps. The water drains get clogged and allow water into the trunk. Remove the right rear trunk panel and check for signs of water/corrosion at the electrical connector on the PSE pump.

I took a look at the pse and one plug was taken off. so I plugged it back in and the horn started blaring! so I then sprayed sillicone on the contacts. plugged back in and seemed to work, remote locked and unlocked.
But.... dome light stayed on, and gurgle noise sounded near dash?? I went to lock car and the front left light stayed on.. So I unplugged the terminal again... any ideas? thanks...

Check both of the door switches, they are near the part on the body that the door latch engages in to, kind of a black "tombstone" shape plastic, with the pin that the door pushes on. These I have seen break, and fall into the body, so the door no longer pushes in on the pin, so the lights stay on.
ALSO on the SLK, the interior lights also come on with an open trunk, and I am unsure where the switch is for the trunk, possibly part of the latch, maybe ILUVMILS knows where it is.

Thanks Gilly. I checked both doors and switches are in tact. I am not sure where the trunk one is either... what do u think the girgling noise is in the hood? could it be an air leak? I hope all it is is a switch, I would be a happy camper then

No idea on the gurgling, but I think that the alarm going off may be related to the switch.
